Fern is a 3-year-old female Red Heeler with a gentle heart and a sensitive soul. She may be a little nervous at first, but with time, patience, and kindness, she truly blossoms. Once Fern gets to know you, her sweet and loving personality shines through.

Hello. I am interested in learning more about Fern. I lost my 16 years-young Layla at the end of October. I had her with me for 15 years. I’m ready to find another forever friend – and I have a lot of love and patience to give. I am 65 and still working full time, so I am gone all day. I work in a school district, so have shorter hours in the summer, and more time to spend. I have a good sized yard and deck – and love spending time outdoors, and going for walks in the many parks that Putnam (and the surrounding areas have). Layla did not like other dogs, and it was a challenge. I am hoping to find a dog that is OK with other dogs – but they will be my One and Only. Is Fern crate-trained at all? Not a problem if she isn’t, as I can gate off the upstairs when I’m at work. I’m writing because I want to be sure that the fit is right for both of us, before I make a commitment. I will complete an application either way, as I am definitely ready to be rescue again – and be rescued right back. Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you.
